No offense taken. IMHO, they are not completely useless. Maybe this is where the analogy breaks down.

For example, a burglar may prefer to break into a house with absolutely no security system than one that's partially secured if for no other reason than lack of information works against the burglar -- the burglar won't want to take the time to scope out
the security.

OTOH, the maintainer of the code doesn't have the option of which code he/she maintains. Lack of information still works against the maintainer which means that any readily available piece of information is worth that much more.

I think having these wrappers won't hurt when not used and will only help when they are used.
