As far as I am aware, MS does not have this problem (it correctly handles
the empty base class), although I'm not sure about VC6.

Regarding the ABI's I'm not sure how compatible they are since they use
different object code formats: Borland uses OMF, while MS uses COFF, so they
aren't very object-code compatible to begin with.
