Just be aware of the fact, that on HP-UX and Tru64 (and, may be, some other
systems), the output of -dumpversion is not as "clean" as it is on Linux:

HP-UX

2.9-hppa-991112

Tru64

cxxosf.zko.hp.com> gcc -dumpversion
