[boost] [asio] How many outstanding async_ operations allowed?

To my surprise I was not able to find anything in asio's documentation
that would tell me

1) whether it is allowed to have more than one async_* operation
    waiting for completion and

2) how many such (if allowed at all) are permitted.

Is this because I overlooked this part or do I not understand
something fundamental?

I would be glad to get some hints about this.
