It is very tough to standardize a lot of libraries. Who would have thought
Optional would be as difficult as it is turning out to be? However, (1) the
committee has 20 years of experience with difficult to standardize
libraries and is getting better at it, (2) the specification is what gets
standardized, not the implementation, and that takes a lot of issues off
the table, (3) the initial target is a Technical Specification, and the bar
there is quite a bit lower, (4) it is usually acceptable for big libraries
like ASIO to begin life lightly specified and let the specification mature
over time.
