2MB is much too large for the list.
I have no idea.  The -d+13 output definitely rules out
REBUILDS as the culprit.  I think I'm going to have to
add more debugging output to make1.  Anyway, here's
the latest patch.  I don't expect it to fix anything,
but we can always hope...
