Well the 1.34.0 instructions are excellent.  I now have a much better understanding of the process, and how the libraries are used.  However, it appears that my problem is specifically with bjam.  Typing in the compilation instructions (since I specifically need thread and date_time fully working) results in an “Application Error” popup from Windows, and the program immediately terminates with no displayed output.

Just to make sure I’m doing this properly:

  1. I’m currently running the pre-built bjam.exe file from boost-jam-3.1.13-1-ntx86.zip.  Since I’m running Windows XP, I’m assuming this is the correct executable.
  2. I placed the .exe in my root boost directory (in this case, C:\Boost\boost_1_34_0. *This step may be wrong… the instructions said to run it from this directory, so I assumed the .exe had to be in this directory as well.
  3. The exact line I typed to invoke bjam was: bjam --build-dir=C:\Boost\boost_1_34_0 --toolset=msvc stage

I also obtained temporary administrative rights to make sure that it wasn’t a permissions problem, but that did not solve the issue either.  Any help you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated.
