I actually don't know for sure, but I think sun 5.8 is being regularly
tested on Boost, with good results.

I think "good results" would be a massive overstatement for the Sun C++ 5.8 compiler results.

See the "Sandia-sun" columns on http://beta.boost.org/development/tests/trunk/developer/summary.html.  Many, many libraries are listed as "broken".
