Please elaborate on the issue, and others would be happy to chime in ;-)

I'm not aware of any known issues compiling for 1_34_1 under gcc 3.4 or 4.1 or ... for that matter. 
As I compile for ever flavor under the sun.

There may however be a couple of packages missing in your distro (linux or bsd) which some of the internal libraries depend on,
however further information is needed in order to correctly diagnose.
