I tried downloading and running the boost "exe" from sourceforge. This
distribution builds ok with the win32 port of pthreads. I have not
diff'd it with the tarball I was using earlier but I suppose there must
be differences to get this different behaviour. Very strange. Oh well,
at least I have a working boost now.
