hmm i got it to work.. by editing user-config jam to specify where gcc.exe comes from.. but i was wondering if i can specify the gcc root directory without editing user-config.jam (mingw root directory).

I *think* that you are trying to build 1.34.0 with the old build syntax.
1.34.0 is built using BBv2 which uses a different syntax.  Check the
new getting started guide and see if it helps:
