I am also new to timers; I got this example ( I modified little bit ). I hope this may help to you.
I don't know this is the right way or not but it satisfies your needs.

Subject: [Boost-users] [boost.asio] repeating a timer

Hi:
I've just been looking at the boost asio timers, I was wondering whetherthere is a repeat timer, so that my call back will be executed everytime the timer completes.
This needs to execute more than once.
Any help apreciated.
Sean.
