I don't if it could be useful, but I solved this issue compiling the b2 with gcc. I did the same for cmake.

$ ./bootstrap.sh

Failed to bootstrap the build engine
Consult 'bootstrap.log' for more details

$ cat bootstrap.log
./build.sh: syntax error at line 143: `machine=$' unexpected
