It is a Good Thing that boost mailing list contributors often suggest
changes to boost libraries.
But actual changes to source code are only made by specific library's
maintainer, normally the author. The intent is for the maintainer to
act as a gatekeeper, filtering out well-meaning but ill-advised
changes.
In the case of libraries like cast.hpp with contributions from
various authors, the maintainer will only make changes when okayed by
the author of the specific contribution.
In the case of polymorphic_downcast, Dave Abrahams is the author, and
he has in private email okayed Valentin's modification of Darin
Adler's latest
suggested assert() change, so I as maintainer will go ahead and make
that change.
