In the same way that my switching to Unix would "fix" the problem.

Apple's marketing effort not withstanding, OS X is a different
operating system then MacOS.

Fair enough. But it seems to me that tools that make using Boost
easier on some platforms shouldn't be a barrier to using it on a
non-mainstream platform. In other words, there should always be a
documented, reasonable way of hand-configuring for an obscure
platform.
