This change is in the CVS since two weeks, and issues with different
compilers having trouble with wchar_t max and min values have been
hashed out (thanks to all people contributing).

The test file was changed to use Boost.Test at the same time.  The
template function won't be replaced by a macro, unless a current compiler
still has trouble with the current implementation.
