The more mathematically minded folks around here, may want to take a look
at: "Extensions for the programming language C to support embedded
processors" at http://std.dkuug.dk/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n972.pdf.
In particular this adds 12 new fundamental data types to cover fractional
and fixed point arithmetic types. Quite what these would look like in C++
remains to be seen, likewise whether C++ implementations can achieve the
same kind of efficiency that the C versions can.
