The CR/LF issue caused me a lot of problems as well. (I use MSVC V6)
If I recall correctly, I had no problems with the files from the
web site http://www.genesys-e.org/ublas/index.htm
but many of the CVS files had the repeating CR CR characters.
While not really a fix, I was able to get around the problem with my text
editor by converting back and forth from Unix to Windows and then saving the
file.
It was a pain, but at least it worked.
