This is not realistically do-able for libraries that are best implemented
using operating
system services. The very existence of operating system services is to
provide re-use
so that language library writers only need to create a binding to the OS
services and
not re-write what is available in the OS.

I can just see Bill K volunteering to write cross platform in assembler ;-)
