I'd probably "fix" this entire test_thread.cpp using something like:

void comparison(boost::thread_ptr tptr)
{
    boost::thread_ptr curr_tptr(boost::current_thread::ptr());
    BOOST_TEST(curr_tptr != tptr);
    BOOST_TEST(curr_tptr == boost::current_thread::ptr());
}

void test_comparison()
{
    new_thread(comparison, boost::current_thread::ptr())->join();
}

And, BTW, this would also work even WITHOUT "->join()" above... ;-)
