I have three reasons for merging immediately:
0) So that users can checkout the latest version from the CVS and get
benefit from the changes
1) There's less risk of a conflict when merging at once (saves me some
typing, if nothing else)
2) I don't risk forgetting to merge later on
Of course, there's not always an option of doing it this way, but when there
is, I prefer doing it as atomically as possible.
