type_trait / lambda push the template processing of the compiler, as
does MPL, so I jumped headlong into a conclusion <g>

BTW, most lambda failures seem to be a consequence of the refactored
type_traits, although I'm not sure what the status was before. 
Unfortunately, I quickly got bogged down in the type_traits
implementation trying to see if any workarounds were possible, and have
put this exercise off for the mythical occasion I have some more spare
time :¬ (
