[boost] Filesystem path checking too strict?

The bcp tool has recently stopped working - it now throws an exception from filesystem lib:
 

**** exception(205): std::exception: boost::filesystem::path: invalid name "c++boost.gif" in path: "../../../c++boost.gif"
******** errors detected; see standard output for details ********
 
Come on, surely c++boost.gif is a valid name?
