While I certainly don't claim that the documentation for Variant is free 
from errors, I think the following notice on index.html is pretty clear 
the that the documentation you're referring to is no longer valid:

   NOTE: These docs are out-of-date! Please see the BoostBook sources in
   libs/variant/doc/*.xml or (relatively) recent BoostBook-generated HTML
   at [http://tinyurl.com/ptgn].

The BoostBook documentation is still a work in progress, but if you find 
any errors I'd appreciate feedback.
