The status is that I haven't yet made those post review changes. I've though 
about better design and I seems I'll be able to both incorporate the comments 
and make the library somewhat simpler, but nothing concrete yet.

I don't think I'll be able make it into the 1.31 release, but I'll do my best 
to post a revised version for comments after 1.31 is released, so that it can 
be added to CVS at the beginning of the next release cycle.
