Oh, well that's still cool. But then, is it really preferred over
the raw array if it doesn't ever leave the scope in which it is
defined?

This looks great! But I would call it "making structured/
aggregate literals first-class values in C++", rather than
just talking about initializer lists. That makes it more obvious
that perhaps there's an obvious incompleteness about
C++.
