Give the stated aim of the library to be useful for simple, script-like 
programs, that seems a bit like overkill.

Also, I'm grooming this library for submission to the Standards committee. 
The less dependencies on components not in the standard, the better. Of 
course, boost::optional may get submitted someday too...
