Can't you just "typedef ptrdiff_t streamsize" ?

I was probably unclear: the actual warnings are just few, but there is a
"trace hint" emitted for each template instantiation holding the
problem, so the output sums up to about thousand lines (in my quite
simple case).

Did you test some user code, too (these warnings will not show up unless
the templates they're in get instantiated. So does this happen when
building the library ?) ?

No warnings with 64-bit tests turned off.
