The problem appears to only show up with STLport 5 and msvc, but you're 
right and the patch is correct.

Unfortunately that's not the end of the story: I'm seeing other quite 
intractable problems with STLport 5 when used with VC6 or 7, but it does fix 
VC7.1 at least.
