No, it gets revisited about every 6 months, when somebody complains
that they don't like our choice. We talk about the alternatives and
how well they'd serve Boost's needs, but have not (so far) come up
with a different answer.
Also, the move to develop BBv2 represents a substatial "revisiting" of
the BBv1 decision and how well it is playing out for us. That project
began... oh, geez, about 4 years ago, in 2002. So I guess we realized
by then that BBv1 had some shortcomings that we wanted to address.

Yes; I've had a complete doc rewrite in my queue for some time now.
I'm eager to get to it.

Explain to whom?
Certainly somebody would need to understand how to use the tool to
generate these makefiles.
The other upside, usually, is build/update speed. Because the
makefile expresses build instructions at an extremely low level of
abstraction, there's no risk of paying an abstraction penalty for BB's
high level project descriptions. However, then you need to decide
somehow when to regenerate the makefiles.

Sure there is! I run my Boost tests with
bjam ... --debugger="devenv /debugexe"
and it launches the test inside the Visual Studio debugger.

Note: this document is only 48 pages long; it's worth a read if anyone
is interested in knowing more.

Have you done an extensive analysis of our requirements, or is this a
less-researched impression?
