That would be neat. My sense is that they'll need to be some kind
of trait or property that controls character encoding. I'm not at
all familiar with i18n or l10n issues, so I'll leave that to the
experts.
I'd definitely want to have the option of using plain 'ol ASCII
becausde not all terminals support things like unicode.
