"Don't assume type sizes" firstly usually holds true. Also, while /not/
owning a copy of the standard, I could not figure out a theoretical
reason why short must not be longer than 16 bits. (Oh well.)

Maybe I should have clarified that I was talking about short not
necessarily being /exactly/ 16 bits.
