I'm doing that for the sake of least surprises in the interface. I
think I know what you mean but some people might prefer to have the
lib be responsible for allocating the memory. For example in the case
the image file is in bad shape the lib will throw an exception and no
memory would be allocated.
Have you tested the lib? Can you compile on Linux? That would be a great help!
