Sorry, I couldn't get what you were driving at in that long posting.  It
seemed like a lot of what you were discussing was based on trying to
write one "universal algorithm" through which you could do everything
else as a way of reusing optimizations, sort of like mpl::iter_fold_if.
But I don't really see how that ties in with buffering.  If you could
make your ideas more concise, it would help.
