The fact that I see it differently but understand some of the
arguments being made here suggests to me that it should be left up to
the application developers and not guess at it in Boost.
For what it's worth I would see a correspondence something like:
$TMPDIR - %TEMP%
$HOME - %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
$HOME/Documents - %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\My Documents
And even so I'm very aware that even I don't even have a
$HOME/Documents on some of the machines I use.
