Maybe you know, maybe you don't, but the alias template style you
refer to is used extensively in Origin
(http://code.google.com/p/origin/).
Actually, so are a number of other techniques discussed in this
thread, or variations of them. The code to expand a tuple as function
arguments looks very familiar.
