FYI after wasting three hours fixing the Windows 8.1 upgrade making 
my machine unbootable (tip to anyone else here: uninstall and *purge* 
all graphics drivers, including those for Intel onboard graphics and 
MVP Virtu, before doing the upgrade), I had a spare half hour to try 
VS2013 RTM.

In short: that preprocessor bug looks fixed. Good news.
