odeint and predef can both be solved with merging the 'original history' with the 'svn history' and you effectively get both. That's an accurate representation of what will actually happen.

I've personally used rewriting history for non-public changes (I think changes on development branches is private) and for reducing the size of certain repositories which contained binary files that shouldn't have been there.

I'm just pointing out that there is a difference between 'have to' and 'want to'.
