Great - thanks for digging into this!

Even though I'm a great fan of TortoiseXYZ, I'm getting accustumed to
Atlassian's SourceTree. In those times it is responsive it's working
really well with good submodule support, but sometimes it's simply
eating up 100% CPU for minutes - much like a denial-of-service attack.
