I appreciate the historical explanation but it is confusing to me.
Especially:
"pos.seekpos + std::streamoff( pos ) - _FPOSOFF( pos.seekpos ) == _Fpos
+_Myoff + _FPOSOFF(_Fpos) - _FPOSOFF( _Fpos ) == _Fpos + _Myoff"
