I doubt it will be an issue for folks building locally.

Daniel, just out of curiosity, how hard would it be to add a general
"call external tool" rule, that could be re-purposed to generate
equations from latex or graphs via graphviz etc? I'm not suggesting you
go off and implement it right now... just scoping out the terrain...
