* wiki contribution doesn't require the same level of authorization as
write-access to a repo.

* wiki contribution doesn't require any git expertise.

* wiki contribution is much quicker both on the client as well as the
server side (it doesn't require any tools other than a web browser, and
neither a rebuild on the server).

These may sound like quantitative differences, but overall I think they
make a qualitative difference (what people like to call a "game changer").
