Still too early to say that. There are a lot of serious concerns,
and agreement on some points, but full consensus is still in the
future, IMO.

Agreed.
An analogy: standard iostreams does not include support for many
features of modern character terminals - color, fonts, positioning,
sound, etc. Does this mean that iostreams is not useful? No, it
doesn't; iostreams is very, very useful indeed.
Likewise, it may be possible to design a windowing toolkit which
excludes many features of typical GUI's, yet is very, very useful.
So let's not close down this discussion quite yet.
