Boost.Threads, gcc and HP-UX

I've noticed that in boost/config/platform/hpux.hpp this lines: #ifdef __GNUC__ // GNU C on HP-UX does not support threads (checked up to gcc 3.3) # define BOOST_DISABLE_THREADS #endif have been added in version 1.30.x. Please, ¿can someone explain me why? I have commented out the #define BOOST_DISABLE_THREADS and it works in gcc 3.2 with HP-UX 11.00. Hi. Calling boost::gregorian::from_string with string value = 2003-07-28 produces a range exception, i.e. year supposedly does not fall inside the range covered by boost::gregorian::date!!!! Any suggestions? Greetings, Andre.

Boost.Python: is my code safe?

I have a question regarding the use of Boost.Python. What I would like to do is to provide a simple scripting interface to an application in much the same way as Microsoft use Visual Basic within much of their product line (e.g. Excel) to provide direct access to the applications object model. My design is stunningly rendered below, +-------------------------+ | Application--+ | | | | Dynamically +---------------+ | v | Linked | Python Module | | +--->ObjectModel<------------------| | | | | +---------------+ | +---------------------+ | | | | Python Interpretter |<----------------------+ | | | | ">>> import ..." | +---------------------+ | +-------------------------+ What we have firstly is a our python module, in this case it exports a simple class 'ObjectModel' with various functions, sub objects and whatever else is required for the application to run. This is our Object Model, and is usable from the python interpretter on the command line. For what we have in mind however is for the python interpretter to be running inside the application (through use of the Py* functions from the python API and use of the relevant parts of Boost.Python - handle<>, object). What I want is for the application and the python instance to share the object model, for the interpretter to have knowledge of the ObjectModel it is simply imported from the python module. The application itself is linked against the python module in order to use ObjectModel (the relevant compiler specific code is inserted so that the ObjectModel class is exported/imported - __declspec(dllexport) and dllimport under Visual C++). With this setup, it is now possible to create an instance of ObjectModel within the python interpretter and use extract<ObjectModel*>(...) in order to get access to it within the application, no doubt it is also possible to create the ObjectModel within the application and pass it to the python interpretter to use it there. Now my question basically regards pitfalls in this approach, there are two instances of the Python Module in use here but I'm sure that as long as care is taken to ensure the ObjectModel is destructed on the same heap that it was created on then there shall be no problems. Is there any other, possibly better way to do this perhaps - e.g. without requiring the use of the module at all, simply passing the Boost.Python class descriptions directly to the embedded interpretter. A simple test harness I have /appears/ to work fine with the above design. win32.hpp has a using std::max, min

win32.hpp has using std::min and using std::max directives. (win32.hpp in fact overrides these functions). These directives hinder use of the max function elsewhere in a client program, for example, by #included c libraries, which are expecting to use the global (non overridden) max function. Indeed, Sutter's More Exceptional C++ #40 (p. 236) asserts that using directives/declerations should never appear in any headers (certainly not at file scope!). Will this be removed in future releases?

Building Boost with Intel compiler 7.0 and STLPort on windows

Hello. Does anyone know whether it is currently possible to use Boost with the Intel Compiler v7.0 and the latest STLport, in windows? It seems I still have to hack files in date_time/posix_time (specifically time_formatters.hpp), to reduce my compile errors. Like defining BOOST_MSVC and then undeffing it, before line 43 of this file is processed. Otherwise I get ambigious operator definitions. Also, is it possible to actually build the date_time library with the Intel compiler and STLport at the same time? Why is there a msvc-stlport toolset but no intel-stlport toolset? O; another thing. Has anyone perhaps built boost in MSYS before? If MSVC + Intel setup is giving me too much hassle, I am going to try and build boost in MSYS. Greetings, Andre

What's the proper way to use lambda with smart pointers? Compile errors boost 1.30.2

Hi. I get the following error when compiling the latest version of boost, using Intel compiler 7.0 in visual c++: ..\..\..\boost\boost/type_traits/is_integral.hpp(39): error: class "boost::is_integral<unsigned short>" has already been defined BOOST_TT_AUX_BOOL_TRAIT_CV_SPEC1(is_integral,wchar_t,true) Now the offending line sits between a "#ifndef BOOST_NO_INTRINSIC_WCHAR_T". The simple fix of defining BOOST_NO_INTRINSIC_WCHAR_T solves this problem, but causes other problems in other locations. is this what you had in mind?? I've considered this from time to time (first time I've formalized it tho) especially thinking of alternatives to the 3 delimiter arguments (substitute one? [BGL] adjacency property iterator

Hi Is there an adjancency iterator for property types. You can get an iterator for property types like this: typedef graph_property_iter_range<GraphType, vertex_name_t>::iterator VNameIterator; .... tie(It, ItEnd) = get_property_iter_range(m_Graph, vertex_name); I'd like to know if there is something similar for adjacency iterators. using boost::mem_fn result as a parameter?

I'm new to boost::bind and boost::mem_fn. I've read the documentation and I think I understand what they do, but I'm not sure how to use them to accomplish my task. I have a class that contains several vectors in a map. I want to put a "foreach" method on the class that will callback an arbitrary member function, of an arbitrary class, for each item in the vector. I'm stuck on the signature of that method. A quick sketch of the structure: class VectorContent { public: void dosomething(); // there are bunches more, which is why I don't // want a foreach for every possible choice. }; class VectorHolder { std::map<std::string, std::vector<VectorContent> >; std::vector<VectorContent>& rvectGet(const std::string& rksName); public: void foreach( const std::string& rksName, <WHAT?> ); }; // the callback Caller::Bar( VectorContent& vc ) { vc.dosomething(); } I see two options for the caller: // option 1 Caller::Foo1() { VectorHolder callee; // in this case, foreach uses boost::mem_fn(), not me callee.foreach( "VectorName", &this::Bar ); } // option 2 Caller::Foo2(); { VectorHolder callee; callee.foreach( "VectorName", boost::mem_fn(&this::Bar) ); } In the case of option 1, all callers must share a common base class, which they do NOT, so that the signature of VectorHolder::foreach can be: typedef void (BaseClass::* MyCallBack)(VectorContent&); Leading to: void VectorHolder::foreach( const std::string& rsName, MyCallBack callback ) { std::vector<VectorContent>& rvect = rvectGet( rsName ); std::for_each( rvect.begin(), rvect.end(), boost::mem_fn(callback) ); } In the case of option 2, I have no idea what the signature should be. Hi, I'd like to use shared pointers with CodeWarrior 8.3 in a Carbon application. I have some preprocessing errors, the first one being relative to a thread Macro being undefined: lightweight_mutex.hpp line 86 # error Unrecognized threading platform I read in boot/config/plateform/macos.hpp that Boost was thread safe under Carbon but apparently there is no macro to define the usable type of thread... Any help appreciated, Bruno
