Ok so I ran these (not to completion, I don't have *that* much time :)), but it appears that the indexing operation for multi_array is very slow in that a single index operation requires a lot of indirection and construction of a couple of different types (which is repeated for each dimension). I thought iterators may be faster. So I reworked your code to use iterators. Its even slower. I think the indexing method you use is the best for your application. I hope someone can correct me.

[BGL] BFS visitor question

Hello, I'm using the BFS visitor that appears in the BGL book (p 66), which can also be found here: http://boost.org/libs/graph/doc/kevin_bacon.html I would like to compute a quantity that depends on the bacon number of a vertex, but only to distance d_max as my graphs are quite big (and I need to compute the quantity for each vertex, so I want a speedy computation). Ideally, I'd like to write something like the code below (my code appears after the comment), but this doesn't seem to work. Linker Problems with VC 7.1/ Boost 1.32 / Stlport 4.61

Hi, I've been happily using Boost 1.32 with Visual C++ 7.1 for a few months. Now I'd like to switch to STLPort, but can’t get my project to compile with STLPort due to linker errors (LNK2019 and LNK2001) in every boost library I use (signals, filesystem, thread). First I installed STLPort and to make sure that it is working properly with a dummy (boostless) project. Then I re-compiled boost with the stlport toolset: bjam "-sTOOLS=vc-7_1-stlport" "-sSTLPORT_PATH=C:\Programme\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\add-ons" "-sSTLPORT_VERSIONS=4.6.1" "-sPYTHON_ROOT=c:/Programme/Python24" install Last but not least, I recompiled my project (multithreaded, static runtime) which is using boost. Can you give me some tests? I can run them and check. multi_array_ref timing issue

We have a real-space convolution code that we noticed was running notably slower in our c++ version than it was in our f90 version. So, we extracted out the key part of the code and started seeing if we could find a bottleneck. Also, I've managed successfully to have a shared_array member as part of another class's instantiation. The only difference that I see is the timing of when they're instantiated. Could it be anything to do with the initialisation of my pthread environment? (what initialises pthreads?) I'll do some experiments around this. If it is of interest, this is all being done in a Mac OS X Cocoa Objective-C environment. Cocoa likes to know when it is going multi-threaded (http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/ Multithreading/articles/CocoaDetaching.html) and I do let it know, but maybe I should let it know earlier.
