Hello, is a technique available in boost in order to assign an int value to a enum? enum E { e1 = 1, e2 = 2, e3 = 3 }; E e( static_cast< E >( 1) ); // should work E e( static_cast< E >( 5) ); // should throw exception at runtime Regards, Oliver

[Ublas] Lack of arbitrary base

Hi, Is there some reason that Ublas decided not to (consistently) allow aribtrary index bases for its matrix types like multiarray and blitz++? I can't quite figure it out, except for some measured (perceived?) performance impact. Thanks Sohail

boost::gregorian::date_period,how to increment/decrement the period

hello! boost::gregorian::days size(1); boost::gregorian::date_period tmp(period.begin()+=size,period.end()-=size); period=tmp; is there any better way to increment/decrement the period object I want period.begin+=size; period.end()-=size to be permanent to period but it doesn't,it returns an object... any idea?? thanks for any help.

[Test] unit_test_framework link problem

Hi, Up to boost version 1.33.1 I used to be able to successfully build my unitests, which define a testsuite with the library function init_unit_test_suite, like this: g++ -o build/debug/test/devs/test_shdevlib.o -c -g -Wall -ftemplate-depth-255 -O0 -fno-inline -I. -I/home/boost/src/boost-built test/devs/test_shdevlib.cpp g++ -o build/debug/test/devs/test_shdevlib -Wl,-rpath-link,. -rdynamic build/debug/test/devs/test_shdevlib.o -L/home/boost/src/boost-built/stage/lib -lboost_unit_test_framework-gcc-d -ldl With the current cvs version of boost this doesn't work any more. Linking fails with the following error: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-suse-linux/3.3.3/../../../crt1.o(.text+0x18): In function `_start': ../sysdeps/i386/elf/start.S:98: undefined reference to `main' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status This is on linux with gcc 3.3.3. Is this usage of the UTF not supported any more? How do I have to change the way I'm building my unit tests? Linking to the static version? TIA, Chris

[string_algo] split algorithm predicate question

I've used the boost::algorithm::split successfully in the past with the is_any_of predicate as shown in the docs. Something like: using namespace boost_algorithm; std::vector<std::string> split_result; split( split_result, some_string, is_any_of("=+") ); But now I want to match a multi char string exactly on the split. Effectively something like: std::string some_data("1===2); split( split_result, some_data, is_equal("===") ); //result gets strings "1","2" I'm not finding a predicate or easy way to do this. Is this not supported or am I just missing something? Thx, Jeff

Hi, I am trying to use the transform algorithm to populate a deque<bool> : vector<int> orgList; deque<bool> skipped; transform(orgList.begin(), orgList.end(), back_inserter(skipped ) , _1 = false); But this does not compile, please tell me what did I do wrong? [LAMBDA] minimal installation

Since we are interested in using Boost::Lambda in our project and can not depend on the whole of the Boost library because of size restrictions we are interested in including a minimum Lambda subset of Boost. From what I understand only header files are needed in order to use Lambda, so that leads me to believe such a subset should be possible. In an initial experiment I created such a subset, but was unable to make it smaller than 13.3mb. Is it possible to create a subset of Boost to use Lambda which would be around 1mb or less? Need help in installing boost on Fedoa 5

Hi, I am trying to install boost library on Fedora 5. Here is what I did: [root@localhost boost_1_33_1]# ../boost-jam-3.1.12-1-linuxx86/bjam "-sTOOLS=gcc" install --without-python Building Boost.Regex with the optional Unicode/ICU support disabled. Please refer to the Boost.Regex documentation for more information (and if you don't know what ICU is then you probably don't need it). ...found 13313 targets... [root@localhost boost_1_33_1]# and the library is installed in [root@localhost boost-1_33_1]$ pwd /usr/local/include/boost-1_33_1 [root@localhost boost-1_33_1]$ ls boost/ But when I build my problem calling boost, it can't find it: /home/yinglcs/data/base/RectUtils.h:11:33: error: boost/lambda/bind.hpp: No such file or directory /home/yinglcs/data/base/RectUtils.h:12:35: error: boost/lambda/lambda.hpp: No such file or directory I appreciate if anyone can help. Thread safety of smart pointers?

Hi, I have several questions related to boost. 1. Are boost::smart pointers thread safe especially shared_ptr ? Although it seems but I still want to be sure of that. 2. Why isn't there two flavours of every smart pointers, one with multithread safety and one without. If one is using some smart pointers in non threaded mode, then still does one need to pay the penalty for exclusive access ? What this means is that for example when one is using shared_ptr which I assume is implemented as counted pointer, any count increment or decrement has to be lock protected in multi-threaded case, which will be an overkill if one is using shared_ptr in a non multi-threaded code. 3. To enable multi-thread safety for other various libraries especially which are non-templates, does one need to compile boost with some special flags passed to the bjam? I am not sure whether this question is suited for this mailing list or not. Correct me if this is not the correct platform for posting this question.
