Hi there, I am writing a DLL under Windows with MSVC 2005. In my project, boost:regex is involved. I do nothing but include the following in my stdafx.h #include <boost/regex.hpp> #include <boost/regex/v4/match_flags.hpp> #include <boost/scoped_ptr.hpp> #include <boost/compressed_pair.hpp> #include <boost/format.hpp> #include <boost/algorithm/string/regex.hpp> #include <boost/algorithm/string/regex_find_format.hpp> #include <boost/algorithm/string/replace.hpp> #include <boost/algorithm/string/split.hpp> #include <boost/algorithm/string.hpp> #include <boost/algorithm/string_regex.hpp> #include <boost/algorithm/string/trim.hpp> #include <fstream> #include <sstream> #include <string> #include <vector> it is all right to complie the project once I specify the path of the library of boost::regex. I found there are librarys in the directory libboost_regex-vc80-mt-s-1_33_1.lib and libboost_regex-vc80-mt-s.lib I wonder what's different between these two librarys? Which one should I used to develope a DLL? Thanks in advance.

[mpl] Doc for for_each

Having written code using a stateful functor with mpl::for_each and observing that side effects were not taking place, I went to http://www.boost.org/libs/mpl/doc/refmanual/refmanual_toc.html to confirm my suspicion that the functor was being passed by value. But there appears to be no documentation for mpl::for_each (neither in the HTML version of the reference manual nor in the PDF version). I ultimately confirmed my suspicion by looking at the header file, but is there a reason why for_each seems to be documented only in the printed book? Thanks, Scott

[mpl] Implementing eraseVal

Since set seems to be broken, I find myself wanting to implement this metafunction. It need work only for vectors: // erase all occurrences of T in Seq template<typename Seq, typename T> struct eraseVal; After several hours and tens or hundreds of thousands of lines of error messages from three compilers, I am unable to get it working. My attempt to do it the "right" way looks like this, and I must warn you in advance that it's not pretty, unless you like an approach that calls find three times with the same arguments: template<typename Seq, typename T> struct eraseVal : mpl::eval_if< boost::is_same<typename mpl::find<Seq, T>::type, typename mpl::end<Seq>::type>, typename mpl::identity<Seq>::type, eraseVal<typename mpl::erase<Seq, typename mpl::find<Seq,T>::type, typename mpl::next<typename mpl::find<Seq,T>::type>::type >::type, T> > {}; My more procedural attempt looks better (to me), but it still doesn't compile: template<typename Seq, typename T> struct eraseVal { typedef typename mpl::find<Seq,T>::type iter; typedef typename mpl::eval_if< boost::is_same<iter, typename mpl::end<Seq>::type>, typename mpl::identity<Seq>::type, typename eraseVal<typename mpl::erase<Seq, iter, mpl::next<iter>::type >::type, T>::type > type; }; God I miss iteration. errors by xlC not seen by gcc/vs2005

Hi all, I've got a problem with boost compiled under xlC. I've built boost on AIX with gcc 4.1.1 and xlC visual age 6. On the pc, with vs2005. So the same code using gcc/vs2005 is fine. Now when I'm compiling my code under xlC, I'm getting these issues popping up. Anyone have an idea of how to solve this? Or is it that xlC 6 is just not current enough to work with boost? Thanks! [serialization] Enable serialization for a heirarchy of objects

Hi, Is it possible to enable serialization solely for a heirarchy of objects? I was thinking something like: template<typename Derived> struct implementation_level<Derived, typename ::boost::enable_if<::boost::is_base_of<Base,Derived> >::type> { typedef mpl::integral_c_tag tag; typedef mpl::int_< ::boost::serialization::object_serializable > type; BOOST_STATIC_CONSTANT(int,value = implementation_level::type::value ); }; But that requires implementation_level to be patched. Ok so I've used boost before in passing on a Linux system but I've never set it up before on a windows system. Currently I'm looking at it for learning some advanced programming techniques with shared pointers and just to get a general handle of the rest of the libraries. However I can't seem to get boost.jam to install on my Windows Machine and the error is a fairly cryptic one that I'm not sure of the relevance of. Specifically: \Utilities\Bin\x86 was unexpected at this time. I have found a directory area with that structure on my system, specifically in the directx SDK area. The error kills the build script the same way regardless of the compiler it's pointed to so I'm leaning towards it being some sort of environment issue but I'm not sure. Important notes are I'm running the Vista Enterprise edition with VS2k5 and the SP1 patch for vista so this could be lending to the problem. Has anyone had a similar issue? Hi there, I'm trying to find a solution for looking for type vector containing a specific type. On another thread I was suggested to use at_c within the find_if algorithm. [MPL Book] FSM Question

I have a question on the FSM Player from the MPL book. In the source sample you write in the main function: player p; // An instance of the FSM p.process_event(open_close()); // user opens CD player p.process_event(open_close()); // inserts CD and closes p.process_event( // CD is detected cd_detected( "louie, louie" , std::vector<std::clock_t>( /* track lengths */ ) ) ); p.process_event(play()); // etc. p.process_event(pause()); p.process_event(play()); p.process_event(stop()); This is nice but what if I have a real life case, where I don't know which event will arrive next? Then I need to dispatch the incoming event and convert it to the appropriate tag. Do I misunderstand it? When I read the book it seemed clear to me, but now I am in the situation where I could use it and I have doubts if I really understood it the way the authors thought... With Kind Regards, Ovanes

I was able to answer my own question after some additional reading. This: find_if(a_vector.begin(), a_vector.end(), bind(equal_to<string>(),bind(&dref,_1),string("with "))); is equivalent to: (?) find_if(a_vector.begin(), a_vector.end(), (bind(&dref, _1) == string("with "))); Please correct me if I am missing anything. There's a steep learning curve and I'm still on it. (bind(&equal_to<string>(),_1))(string("Play ")); |----------------------------||---------------| a b Part "a" above is not a properly formed bind expression: 1 - you are passing the address of an equal_to<...> instance. 2 - equal_to<...> expects two arguments you supply one. Part "b" attempts to invoke the function object resulting from Part "a", and passes the result(if part "a" were well formed); a bool to find_if. find_if then tries to apply operator() to the bool, which again is ill formed. The proper bind expression for comparing a string _value_ is: bind( equal_to<string>(), _1, string("Play ") ) To use this you'd need an indirect or transform iterator adaptor that derefs the weak ptrs. See http://www.boost.org/libs/iterator/doc/indirect_iterator.html http://www.boost.org/libs/iterator/doc/transform_iterator.html I'm not sure of the details in using an indirect iterator with weak_ptr. A transform iterator would require you to provide a deref function, and use it with the iterator adaptor library.
