shared_ptr and signals

Is it possible to use a shared_ptr object in a signal? I want something like struct A{ ... void operator()(){ ... } ... }; typedef boost::signal<void()> Signal; Signal mySignal; boost::shared_ptr<A> a( new A() ); mySignal.connect(a); The trouble seems to be getting the signal to dereference the pointer when the callback is made... Any tips? James

Upgrading from V1.31 to V1.33.1

Hi everyone, While upgrading from boost version 1.31 to version 1.33.1, I'm getting the following errors : error C3861: 'BOOST_DEFAULT_ALLOCATOR': identifier not found Has this macro been deprecated ? Any work arounds available for this ? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Dyuti

newbie: asio ssl help

Hello, I'm a 21 year old dutch student currently working with the ASIO library. I have a basic knowledge of C++ and I know not much of SSL. That is the part of the ASIO lib I'm having trouble with. I'm looking for anyone who can help me. I have pretty much copy-pasted the boost example on SSL clients. ( http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_37_0/doc/html/boost_asio/example/ssl/client… ) My intention is to open a connection to a website that uses HTTPS, login.deviantart.com to be exact. I need to obtain a cookie from there. I have no PEM file to use a certificate, and I doubt I need one. But the thing is, I keep receiving: "Handshake failed: asio:1". I've tried everything I could think of to make it work. But I'm just a student. So, can anyone help me? Kind regards, Ben

Yes, I understand that. I am sorry I should have been more clear; the base class is abstract. I am able to get the "unregistered class" exception in test_no_rtti.cpp, in load_derived, by removing the serializations using derived class pointers (which register the classes). When execution tries to serialize using the base class pointer, the "unregistered class" exception is thrown. I expect this to not happen because all the classes are registered using BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT. Could BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT not be working? Do you see this when commenting out the derived class serializations in load_derived? Thanks, Daniel Roberts Only polymophic types can be serialized through a base class pointer. Robert Ramey

I have managed to fix this by using ret<>() to specify the type that I want my lambda function to return. Now I have: for_each(vect.begin(), vect.end(), var(str) += ret<string>(_1+constant(", ")) ); And it compiles and works fine.
