program_options: Printing options and their values

I am using program_options and want to write to the screen the options and their values. This allows me to verify everything is working properly before I execute a long running command. I thought I could just iterate over the map and print out each option, but that requires casting the option to a specific variable which must be known a priori. Installing Boost (was: Re: Regex problem)

I just ssh'd onto a Linux machine here at my school and compiled and ran it there, and the test code works fine, so I guess I have a problem with my boost install. All I did was download the tar, untar it, cd into the directory, and run "sudo make install". It ran for about four hours (I have an older Powerbook G4). Did I miss a step? Dave

REG_PERLEX Revisited...

In follow up to the message and response quoted below. Boost regex seems to work fine on Mac OS X and on our Linux platforms. But, on Windows 32 bit we have the following situation. Note this message is a little bit on the long side given that I am including a short program and the output from running on Windows and Linux platforms. The brief program shown below illustrates this problem. The results are from the Linux and Windows 32-bit machine. You can see on Windows when using the Posix API, I get the right offset only if I use boost::REG_PERL or boost::REG_PERLEX. On Linux, it works fine for all flags. Update: the fixed regex (removed the colon in "(?:i)") works to capture the script tags and their enclosure and remove it from the string. Mac OS X 10.5.2 Xcode 3.0 on an Intel Core Duo 2 Macbook Pro. Regex problem

Hi everyone, I'm trying to parse an HTML page using the Regex library and am running in to errors. In the following snippets, "pageSource" is a string pointer to the contents of an html file. Hi, I'm still having problems with this issue, so I'll repost it: This is my setup: Windows XP SP2 Visual Studio 2005 STLport-5.1.5 boost_1_34_1 I'm trying to write a tiny program, just to get stlport and boost to play nice together and I still have "unresolved external symbol" errors. I downloaded stlport-5.1.5 and built it according to the instructions: * configure.bat -c msvc8 * nmake /f msvc.mak * nmake /f msvc.mak install I also added stlport\bin to my path Next, I downloaded the boost_1_34_1 windows installer and checked all the options to get all the libraries and added it to my path. Next, I configured visual studio 2005 as follows: Tools -> Options -> Project and Solutions -> VC++ Directories -> Show directories for: Include Files: Add the path to stlport headers (D:\Program Files\STLport-5.1.5\stlport) Library Files: Add the path to stlport libs (D:\Program Files\STLport-5.1.5\lib) Next, on the project level, I Added __STL_DEBUG to the list of preprocessors. I'm trying to build a Multi-threaded Debug DLL (/MDd). I also set the (/Zc:wchar_t-) option. I also added "D:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_34_1" to the list of Additional Include Directives. When I tried to link, I got an error saying that libboost_program_options-vc80-mt-gdp-1_34_1.lib could not be found, so I had to build it. I edited the user-config.jam file to add the following line: using stlport : : D:/Program Files/STLport-5.1.5 D:/Program Files/STLport-5.1.5/lib ; This is the command I used to build the new lib bjam --toolset=msvc-8.0 link=static stdlib=stlport threading=multi cxxflags="-Zc:wchar_t-" --with-program_options -a -d2 I built the lib and moved it from bin.v2 to lib. [mpl] integral constant overflow

Hi, I've recently started studying the book "c++ template meta programming" (I like it a lot!) and one of my own exercises was to get an integral type's max/min value. To get the type's maximal value I've created a metafunction max_val; Compiling the code below with vc++2008 warning level 2+ yields the warning "truncation of constant value" or "integral constant overflow" if I use an int instead of a char. <code> namespace mpl = boost::mpl; template<typename T> struct significant_bits: mpl::int_<std::numeric_limits<T>::digits> {}; template<typename T> struct max_val_impl: mpl::accumulate< mpl::range_c<int, 1, significant_bits<T>::value>, mpl::integral_c<T, 1>, mpl::next<mpl::plus<mpl::_1, mpl::_1> > > {}; template<typename T> struct max_val: max_val_impl<T>::type { BOOST_MPL_ASSERT((boost::is_integral<T>)); }; int main() { const char maxval = max_val<char>::value; return 0; } </code> The problematic metafunction instantiation boils down to mpl::integral_c<char, 127> where mpl::integral_c<char, 127>::next results in 128 which is then truncated. Of course I can turn off the compiler warnings but since the warning happens in integral_wrapper.hpp and the integral constant stuff is included in many other files including the boost type traits it would be tedious to always remember to include integral_c.hpp explicitly before any other headers with the warnings turned off. I don't know whether there is a really satisfying option, just wanted to discuss this point. Klaus Triendl

Serialization registration?

Hi, boost::serialization is wonderful. It has saved a massive amount of effort when adding XML based storage to an existing C++ drawing library. A very big thank you to the author and the team. Questions arising: 1. After one or two crash & burn cycles i discovered the need to register derived classes in the 'save through a virtual base class pointer' scenario. Right now this is done when saving to/loading from the archive. Is there an alternative to this method that ensures registration occurs automatically? i'm sure this is a FAQ but cannot find a definitive answer. i..e // XML archive boost::archive::xml_iarchive ia(ifs); // ensure derived types are registered - too easy to forget, what's the better way? ia.register_type(static_cast<CDiagramButton*>(NULL)); 2. Serializing to a binary storage should be a great way to implement undo/redo and clipboard functionality - has anyone found fame and fortune doing this? Cheers Jerry.

Help with [Boost.Iterator] conditional operator

I just recently started using boost and had a question about the ++operator for iterators. What I have is a class foo that has a container of class bar. class foo { private: multimap<bool, bar> container; public: pair<bar::iterator, bar::iterator> get_container( bool usable ); }; class bar { public: /* * Return true if bar is usable, false otherwise. */ bool isUsable(); }; I would like to overload the ++operator for multimap so that I can return all bar's that are usable, i.e. call the bar::isUsable() function before returning the pair of iterators.
