Hello everyone, I couldn't figure out how to use a logical negation in the following situation. struct IsConditionValid : public unary_function<Event, bool> { public: bool operator() (const Event& event)const {} }; remove_copy_if(events.begin(), events.end(), back_inserter(result), IsConditionValid()); <-- how to negate the condition object? What I really need is '! IsConditionValid()'. How can it be done using may be boost::bind ? appreciate your time. thanks pj

Hello, I realize that this library is not yet part of the boost distribution but I am using it and have come accross an issue. I am concerned that the logic in the various check functions may be flawed. Take for example the check_uniform function. The logic is as follows: if lower Ok && upper Ok && lower < upper return true else raise error stating that lower must be less than upper return false end if The functions used to determine if lower and upper are ok will raise errors if appropriate. If the policy is such that raising an error does not cause a throw, then control will return to the check_uniform method with an indication that lower or upper is not ok and we will enter the else block. Herein lies the problem. Consider the following scenario: creating a uniform distribution with: lower = 0.0 upper = postitive infinity Check upper will fail and send a message about the infinity. Enter the else block. A message will be raised that states that the lower parameter is not less than the upper. This is my concern. I believe the second message is unnecessary and potentially incorrect/misleading. Perhaps logic like shown below would be more appropriate: if lower not Ok || upper not Ok then return false else if lower >= upper raise error stating that lower must be less than upper return false else return true end if Thanks, John

Hi; I'm a newbie to regex patterns and need help in a relative simple task: I use boost::regex with perl syntax and I have to parse user input that provides a feature similar to the conditional formatting of cells in OpenOffice Calc. The string the user enters looks like this: >=30 [fg:red] [bg:white] or <0.0 [fg:none] [bg:transparent] First the user can enter an optional operator (> < <> = <= >=) followed by a integer or floating point number. This whole term is optional so [fg:red] [bg:white] is also a valid expression. The terms for color selection are partly optional, so valid expressions are [fg:red] or [bg:white] or [fg:red][bg:white] or [bg:white][fg:red] The key words for foreground and background colors are predefined by the software (red, green, blue, transparent, none, ...). I tried starting with a pattern like (C++ syntax for strings) ^(?:(<|<=|>|>=|=|<>){1}((?:-|\\+)?[0-9]+(?:\\.[0-9]+|\\,[0-9]+)?))?(?:\\s*)(?:(\\[FG:(?:BLUE|RED|GREEN|BLACK|YELLOW|WHITE|CYAN|NONE)\\])|(\\[BG:(?:BLUE|RED|GREEN|BLACK|YELLOW|WHITE|CYAN)\\])|(\\[FG:(?:BBLUE|RED|GREEN|BLACK|YELLOW|WHITE|CYAN|NONE)\\])(?:\\s*)(\\[BG:(?:BLUE|RED|GREEN|BLACK|YELLOW|WHITE|CYAN)\\])){1}$ But this does not allow the [fg:][bg:] terms to be interchanged and also when a new color or style will be added to the format class I have to change the pattern three times. I don't think you need the D:/Program Files/STLport-5.1.5/lib part in there - but I could be wrong! If all else fails try building program_options from your IDE as a static library project using the same build options as your .exe: then you just have to define BOOST_ALL_NO_LIB in your application project to disable auto-linking, and set the static lib project as a dependency of the .exe. I also added "D:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_34_1" to the list of Additional Include Directives. Next, I configured visual studio 2005 as follows: Tools -> Options -> Project and Solutions -> VC++ Directories -> Show directories for: Include Files: Add the path to stlport headers (D:\Program Files\STLport-5.1.5\stlport) Library Files: Add the path to stlport libs (D:\Program Files\STLport-5.1.5\lib) Next, on the project level, I Added __STL_DEBUG to the list of preprocessors. I'm trying to build a Multi-threaded Debug DLL (/MDd). I also set the (/Zc:wchar_t-) option. When I tried to link, I got an error saying that libboost_program_options-vc80-mt-gdp-1_34_1.lib could not be found, so I had to build it. I edited the user-config.jam file to add the following line: using stlport : : D:/Program Files/STLport-5.1.5 D:/Program Files/STLport-5.1.5/lib ; This is the command I used to build the new lib bjam --toolset=msvc-8.0 link=static stdlib=stlport threading=multi cxxflags="-Zc:wchar_t-" --with-program_options -a -d2 I built the lib and moved it from bin.v2 to lib. Hello everybody, I want a stream view of a dynamically allocated BYTE* buffer I have at hand. At first I thought boost::iostreams::basic_array< BYTE > would do the job since they're the closest thing I found in Boost IOStreams library, but as it turns out I was wrong, since the code fails to compile with dynamically allocated buffers. typedef boost::iostreams::basic_array< unsigned char > MemoryDevice; typedef boost::iostreams::stream< MemoryDevice > MemoryStream; BYTE* mem = new BYTE[ 1000 ]; MemoryDevice memoryDevice( mem ); MemoryStream memoryStream( memoryDevice ); I was wondering if there are any available streams that are capable of providing stream-like behavior to such buffers, or should I write a device to handle them? Any help is greatly appreciated.

boost serialization: toString/fromString methods

Dear group, I am trying to provide generic toString/fromString methods (to provide an interface to SWIG/Python serialization), which I'd like to implement in a base class CSGObject (from which all other classes are derived), such that the correct serialization code is called each time. After a bit of fiddling around (and with the help of the archive of this mailing list) I've got the toString method to work. However, things don't seem to be as straight for the fromString method. The following code illustrates what I'd like to do: virtual std::string toString() const { std::ostringstream s; boost::archive::text_oarchive oa(s); oa << this; return s.str(); } virtual void fromString(std::string str) { std::istringstream is(str); boost::archive::text_iarchive ia(is); //cast away constness CSGObject* tmp = const_cast<CSGObject*>(this); ia >> tmp; *this=*tmp; } However, although the correct serialization methods get called, only the information contained in the base class gets restored correctly, but none of the fields in any derived classes. My C++ is quite rusty, but I believe this is because *this is not a pointer and is thus statically bound. I hope there is a solution to this - how would you implement a fromString method like this? Is this even possible? What are the alternatives? Hints would be appreciated! Thank you, Chris
